Maximum PC

So there is a new competitor to HDMI it is called HDBaseT. It uses regular Cat-5 Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors. HDMI is limited to short runs (they say 49ft but in practice stay under 35 ft). HDBaseT can run up 328 ft. A lot of homes are getting wired with Ethernet... they say it will handle video up to 4,000 by 2,000 resolution.

I know HDMI is ignoring with always getting a new standard and most of the times not being to update your stuff. If this lets you just do firmware upgrades, it could win some people over maybe. Sounds like a good idea for installers. It's supported by Samsung, LG, Valens Semiconductor, and Sony Pictures (the motion picture division not the home video division).

Of course display port is also out there, but targeted more towards PC's than TV's.

So what do you think, should HDMI be worried?
