Maximum PC

Hey All,

Just got a new router (Linksys E3000), upgrading from a WRT54G (v8).
I'm having some problems with the speed of transfering files on the local network and it makes no since to me...
(Examples transfering ~3GB worth of seperate files. Laptop has WiFi-N/1GB LAN, Desktop has 1GB LAN)

Laptop WiFi -> Desktop LAN = ~5-7MB/s
Laptop LAN -> Desktop LAN = ~5-7MB/s
= ~9min transfer time
^ this is good!

That same data, back to the laptop:
Desktop LAN -> Laptop WiFi = ~160KB/s
Desktop LAN -> Laptop LAN = ~160KB/s
= ~6hr transfer time

What the heck?!
Both are modern systems... Laptop=(Intel i7 640UM, 4GB RAM, 7200RPM Drive) & Desktop=(AMD Phenom II X4 965, 4GB RAM, 7200RPM Drive). I have no antivirus/firewall on either system (besides Win7 itself).

Any Ideas? Shouldn't it transfer the same rate in both directions?!

After a long night with a low quality of sleep over this...
I Figured out what was causing the problem for the wireless on the laptop (haven't tested wired again yet).
Some setting in the wireless card properties needed to be changed:
(Wireless card is "DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card")
"WZC IBSS Channel Number" was set to Channel 11 (Default). I changed it to Channel 9 (same as router), and woosh... 6-10MB/s transfers!!!!!! WTH is this setting anyways?! I thought the channel was supposed to auto-detect...

Actually, by default, it'll jump to channel 11, which is extremely annoying, but works for a lot of the general population, because they don't know any better and just "go with the flow", or lack thereof. Glad you found that issue and fixed it though, now on to the LAN settings.
