Maximum PC

I was looking through the instructions for my DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router, and it says that the "preferred" orientation of the router is to sit horizontally. But it comes with a vertical stand. Could the orientation of the router (horizontal or vertical) affect its performance or usable life?

I could see that certain things might possibly overheat over time if it was vertical as opposed to horizontal, but is there any real problem with one over the other?? Do you get better performance/speed/range by having it horizontal?

Do you, for half a second, think this is a networking problem that you need educated upon?

oops my fault. I've been up for about 24+ hours so far, and had a little lapse in memory apparently.. I looked up and down the list a few times and finally said aw heck. forgot about Network Nook. Can you remove this post so I can repost it there without the consequences of double-posting -- since I can't now that there are replies??

Agreed, it's a Network related question, even if it isn't an "Emergency". We take routine questions as well.

I have a Netgear wndr3700. When I first set it up I had it oriented horizontally in our upstairs office (seemed more stable (not able to knock over)). But, I was having reception problems on the 1st floor of my house.

I changed the orientation to the vertical position and got much better distance performance over the entire house (strong signal strength at the opposite corner of the house and downstairs).
