I have a wireless network that uses a 2Wire router. The connection always gets dropped (the wireless icon in XP will have a red X next to it). 5 minutes later, it will come back up again. This happens about once per hour, and it occurs on all of the computers on the network.

I tried switching it to channel 1 and 11. Still had the same issue. Then I went out and got a Netgear access point and put it on channel 11. The same problem STILL continues, even with a new access point!

What the hell could be wrong?

Well this is just a guess, have you updated the drivers to your wireless card?
Also is your card compatible with the access points? it probably is compatible, to where it could be the driver. but have you had this problem before?

Who is your 2wire modem from? AT&T,verizon or qwest? you might want to contact them if its in warranty to see if it is it thats the problem.

Let us know if you solve this!

renodude18, the problem is not the drivers but the router itself. Try flashing the firmware or you're going to need to get a new router. The only other possible issue would be if you had moved the router to a new location and then this started happening or you built a wall or something or placed other devices by the router that would cause interfearance.

renodude18, he said all computers that means it can't be the drivers.

-Try other channels as well but I suggest avoiding 6.
-Because of the newer cordless phones, this problem is not as common but your phone could be causing interference with the router.

I found out what the problem is- my brother was power cycling the router to try and speed up the internet whenever I ran Bittorrent.
