HI,

I have a problem I am hoping can be solved here. I have a vista pc with the NAS attached to the router. The installation went well and from the Vista Pc i was able to see my NAS. However neither my mac nor the PC were able to see each other although I could see the NAS on my Mac using Finder. I researched the topic and located a tip that I thought could help. The tip said to go into regedit and locate the lek Hkey_local_machine\system\Current Control Set\Control\LSA and change the value from what I had which was a 3 to a 1. I did so and rebooted. when I went into Network I could see the in the upper part of the screen the modem one of my wireless printer the pc. In the lower part of the screen was the NAS and my other wireless printer. To the right of the screen was a message indicating what to do if not my network was not showing properly. None of the choices worked.

I went into windows explorer and I could not see the NAS or the wireless printer. I then went into regedit and reverse the change I had previously made and rebooted.

When I went back into Network the same screen as before appeared. In Explorer I could not see the NAS. I then tried several system restores and none of them work. I am at a complete loss as to what I should do next. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Carl

I need some specs. What service pack of vista? Is UPnP enabled? What kind of NAS do you have, and what firmware/sys revision is on it?

It won't necessary fix your problem, but you should be running SP2. Windows should update it automatically unless you have it turned off.

Installing SP2 is a good start since it had several hundred fixes in it. Then I would double check you Firewall settings, if any. Try turning off your firewall to see if it's available.

You may also want to check you router for a privacy filter. If your Qnap is wired and your PC is wireless, communication may be limited between the two. (This is the case for my Buffalo Router)

Hi,

I did as you suggested as Windows Explorer still cannot see the NAS. Also What about the change I made to the Registry. Do you know why reversing the change had no effect.

Always research a change before you make it. I'm not familiar with LSA, but Microsoft doesn't even describe it in their KB articles.

Do you have the IP Address of your NAS device? If so, try \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\ and check to see if the SAMBA share is running. It may be a DNS or UPnP issue still.

(Sorry for the slowness, I'm actually busy at work for once.)
