I've thought for a while that it could, but now that I'm trying it...can't do it.

Right now I have a PC hooked to the router directly through LAN, then it is the gateway to the internet for other PC's on the network.

What I thought I could do is this: Modem plugged into phone, router wired to modem, then transmit wireless to any machine with the reciever without one PC actually being hooked up directly with a LAN cable. Not true?

WRT54GS + WMP54GS + one PC.

No, why? Is it not clear what I'm asking?

Where not all network engineers...

YES! I had just made some sort of assumption that the router has hardware and an OS, so it should be able to shout out without the need for a hard-link to one of the PC's.

Yes it will work. You need to temporarily connect a PC to it to configure your login, WEP, and DHCP. Once that is done you can disconnect the PC.

Thanks dude! I must be doing something wrong though. The connection process seems buggy. It says connected, but then I look at connections it says "not connected...click connect to..."

I've now set it up, turned off SSID broadcast, and auto connect...nothing. I'll keep playing now that I know it's possible. Thanks again!

Durrr...I got it. I just needed to do some other type of stuff to get it to work with my ISP.

But if anyone else has issues with a Linksys Wireless router, just use this thing:

It's a great Noob Tool made for noobs like me!
