Hey, My roommate watches obscene amounts of hulu our tv. He has become so lazy. Is there anyway I can severly slow down the site or video load times by configuring the router. Or anyother ideas? He is also very techno retarded so if i block the site completely he will try and fix it by changing all kinds of settings on the computer and will most likely ruin the computers he touches.

Obviously changing the WEP Key hasn't occurred to you?

Obviously it has not occurred to you to talk to the guy about your problems. Who's TV is it? Who pays for the internet? Who owns whatever device he is using to watch Hulu on the TV? If he has helped pay for any of that stuff, there is not much you can do besides asking him to share the TV.

Of course you could always lie and tell him that your ISP called and said you were using too much bandwidth.

Wired or wireless? If wired then just edit the QOS settings to your port to High or something.

Yea, He is a know it all and will deny any problem of watching too much tv or how he deserves a break. However I am just trying to get him off his ass.

Any router with QoS abilities can do what you need. All you'd need to do is get it up to reduce his by exception and increase yours.

Also, you could try limiting his access by time. Look in the router connected devices area and write down his MAC address. Then, set times for him to be on the Internet. To him, it will look like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And then password protect your computer to keep his ass off of it.

WTF do you care? If he is a crappy roommate move out, or force him to move out. You are not going to change him.

And who are you to say how much is too much TV? He's your roommate not your kid. Does he pay his share of the rent and utilities on time? Does he clean up his crap on a semi regular basis? Does he know when to STFU for the night? Cause that pretty much all you can ask of a roommate. Can you please explain how his watching TV after work/class negatively effects your life? If he wants to be lazy let him, as far as roommates go it could be a lot worse.

eh...you prevent access, or you slow things down, you generate the same response. I'm still wondering why they want to just slow it down.
