I'm on my Linux machine which is running firefox for ubuntu (says 26.0 in the "About" page).

Yesterday, I cleared all history except for site preferences. Now the history is all clear but when I go to enter an URL, FF completes the weblink even though I don't have it in bookmarks or in history. Is this because I didn't delete site preferences or some other reason?

Here's what I did:

Tools -> Options -> Privacy tab

Near the bottom will be "Clear History when Firefox closes". Check/tick the box.
Click "Settings" to the right. Make sure you've checked/ticked "Browsing and Download History". Click OK.
Below this, "When using the Location Bar", select "Nothing" from the dropdown box, click OK.
