So on this website I'm working on there's a form with five boxes to fill out laid out like this:

1
2 3
4 5

I am having trouble with the tabbing (I didn't create this site I'm working on it for a friend) when you tab the order goes from 5 to 1 to 4 to 3 to 2 when I would like it to go from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5. How do I change this?

Thanks,

Greg

You don't mention a language?

You would typically use something like this:

Code:
<form>
    <label for = "field1">First Name: </label>
    <input type = "text" name = "Fname" id = "field1" tabindex = "1"><br>
    <label for = "field2">Last Name: </label>
    <input type = "text" name = "Lname" id = "field2" tabindex = "2"><br>
    <label for = "field3">Address: </label>
    <input type = "text" name = "Address" id = "field3" tabindex = "3"><br>
  </form>

First Name:
Last Name:
  Address:

Problem here is you not only forget to mention or post a code sample but you don't mention if they are labels, text boxes or what? The example code assumes labels it also assumes labels on a form. Note the tab index references which dictate the order. You really need to get a little specific with the questions and give more info.

What the hell ever became of your post regarding databases?

Hey,

sorry the form is in PHP. I tried to get the embed code from the software this lady installed, but it gives me a long string of code thats hard for me to decipher. I tried to run it through kompozer but that didn't help much.

Is there a similar tabindex for php?

And about the database I've been trying to work it out through this software thats already installed because it seems to be powerful stuff and everythings already set up for it so I emailed their customer support and their being pretty helpful so sorry for the useless post on my part. Thanks for your help on that too btw.

Thanks again,

Greg

ok so I got some code now. I found that the text boxes were actually listed in the order they were tabbing as seen here:

Code:
<li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text16" style="position:absolute; left:240px; top:420px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Cell Phone Number</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text16" id="text16" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text16']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text16'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Please include area code</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text8" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:420px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Your E-mail Address</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text8" id="text8" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text8']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text8'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Check for spelling</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text6" style="position:absolute; left:240px; top:350px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Home Phone Number</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text6" id="text6" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text6']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text6'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Please include area code</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text9" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:350px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Your Name</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text9" id="text9" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text9']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text9'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">First and last name</div></div></li>

I tried changing the order to the order i wanted the tabbing to go like here:

Code:
<li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text7" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:240px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Today's date</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text7" id="text7" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text7']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text7'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Format:8/17/09</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text9" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:350px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Your Name</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text9" id="text9" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text9']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text9'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">First and last name</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text8" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:420px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Your E-mail Address</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text8" id="text8" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text8']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text8'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Check for spelling</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text6" style="position:absolute; left:240px; top:350px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Home Phone Number</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text6" id="text6" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text6']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text6'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Please include area code</div></div></li><li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text16" style="position:absolute; left:240px; top:420px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Cell Phone Number</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text16" id="text16" value="<?php isset($_SESSION['text16']) ? print htmlentities($_SESSION['text16'], ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8') : print ""; ?>"  /><br/><div class="helper" style="color:#5A7BAD;">Please include area code</div></div></li>

But that screwed up the form for some reason... What do I do?

LOL, what little I do with this stuff is in asp but lets see here. I think what you need is a tab index. Give this a read.

When you see things like ....

Code:
<li class=""><div id="fb_fld-text16" style="position:absolute; left:240px; top:420px; z-index:; "><span class="heading-main" style="color:#4056C2; font-size:12px;">Cell Phone Number</span><span class="req-star">*</span><br /><input type="text" size="20"  name="text16" id="text16" value="

the text16 for example is just a name for a text box or text field. The 16 doesn't set a tab index. Therefore changing the name will just screw things up (I think). What you are after I believe is tab index but again PHP isn't something I use let alone know anything about. Maybe the link will help or someone who is good with PHP will wander along.

Thanks for your help Ron. I tried to do what that website said, but to no avail. I guess I'll ask around.

Thanks again for the help,

Greg

No problem. You may want to ask a few PHP questions in the Coder's Corner section of the forums. I think we have several people who use PHP in there or would sure as hell be more help than me.

My bad on that it should have been Programmer's Paradise section. Damn, I don't believe I made that mistake.
