"Think you're downloading a new song or video? Watch out--that file may be stuffed with pop-ups and adware.

PC World has learned that some Windows Media files on peer-to-peer networks such as Kazaa contain code that can spawn a string of pop-up ads and install adware. They look just like regular songs or short videos in Windows Media format, but launch ads instead of media clips."

Not a new trick by any means but uncle Bill isn't going to like this

I open up everything in Winamp, and if that doesn't open it I immediately become suspect of it.

Windows Media Player 10 is awesome in my opinion, probably because I hate winamp's interface. Plus, with WMP10 I can choose from all those vizzies, despite the fact that I only use one. And besides, you shouldn't be stealing other people's property (even if they're rich bastards). Packing spyware into mp3 files is just their way of giving you what you deserve. I'm not picking you out of the crowd, because you're not the only one that does it. Hell, my sister does it too. I'm lucky this computer's speaker set doesn't come with a subwoofer or I'd never be able to sleep (damn hip-hop hooligans).

And you're entitled to your opinion as am I.

Milkdrop is ten times more advanced then Microsofts poorly done visualizations, which they only added after they saw how popular they had become within WinAmp and Quicktime.

Who said I was stealing anything at all?

And they don't pack spyware into MP3 files, they're packing them into WINDOWS MEDIA FILES, which is the reason for my previous comment:

F Windows Media.

I agree with flytrap here, I use winamp and love it.

Well, I haven't been affected by any hacks, thus far, probably because I don't use windows media files.

Then why even use it?

There are plenty of better alternatives out there (obviously you've tried WinAmp and hated it so I won't pimp that one, but there a bunch of others, check out the Player thread in the Multimedia folder).
