Anybody ever get anything like this to work?

There are a few now defunct sites (been gone for 6 or 7 years now) that have a lot of good information on them that I have found in the internet archive. Browsing through the archive is slow and I would like to just download what the archive has and save it so I can view it later locally (let the job run over night or whatever...)

I kinda get what you mean. Judging by the title, I would suggest Scrapbook, an add-in for Firefox. Save web pages locally with even deep links. Can also filter by domain, etc. Check it out.
