I'm trying to find a good host for a site I've been working on. It's just going to be for my group of friends to use for random pages, but I have no idea what numbers I'm looking for. I saw one site that had a gig of space and 50gigs of traffic a month for $7, is that the kind of deal to look for? What are a few tips you guys have? I've only used the free space from my ISP before, so this is new stuff to me.
Any help would totally be appreciated.

I've used Flexihosting without any issues.

I've used both of these:
1&1 Linux Hosting

www.hostonce.com

Both are inexepensive - Both were up everytime I checked them :) and I had little trouble transferring data back and forth either.

For just HTML (and some jscript, javascript, etc.) Host Once is great.

They don't have very good Customer Service though - so if you decide to do a forum or something like that - I'd go with 1&1 instead...

I would suggest
www.1and1.com like tualthal said, or www.surpasshosting.com

Try WebAttention or Site5.

If those don't fit your needs check some hosts out at WebHostingTalk.

If you need to also get a domain name, check out godaddy.com.

They have cheap($5) hosting that is reliable. I've been using them for about a year.

I think that 1and1 hosting is the best. Currently they have a promotion for 6 months free on the business plan.

Actually, I ended up going with www.he.net , and got the enhanced plan for $25, which includes 5Gigs of storage and 100Gigs of traffic a month.
They've been great so far, and the torrent hosting can't be beaten with a stick. :D
