Hey guys... I just built my first custom pc and I am on the final steps of installing drivers and such. I have comcast and I am trying to directly connect with a wire for the internet. There is no connection even when I connect it to the modem. I have no idea what to do. Any have any thoughts? Thank you!

You have to tell Windows what kind of connection it is first. Normally it gives a pop up about what kind of network you were trying to connect it to.

Alternatively, restart. Always seemed to work for me with network issues.

What version of Windows are you running?
Sometimes with Comcast, you have to reset the cable modem to get DHCP to work when you change to a new device, such as a different computer, switch or router as their variant of DHCP tends to bond to a specific MAC address. Try hitting and holding down the reset button on back of the modem for five seconds and then reboot your machine once the cable modem restarts.

^ And if this doesn't work. Call Comcast and have them register/re-register the modem. They may have logged it incorrectly, especially if you're supplying the DOCSIS 3.0 modem...like the SB6121 or SB6141. Legend is that they do this on purpose if you're not using/renting their modem to slap a governor on your upload/download speeds.
