 Post subject: Alternatives for cable provided broadband internet?

A friend of mine asked people on Facebook what she can do for broadband internet when she's considering closing out her Verizon FIOS account. I suggested FIOS internet a la carte, but is there something else she can do? Thank you.

Besides FIOS, I'm aware of broadband internet service via regular cable, DSL, satellite, wireless cellular.
Keep in mind that except for Verizon, the other providers most likely have monthly data caps on their service.
