Hi,

Not sure where to post this question, but I thought I try here. I just received notice that my Comcast Cable bill will be going up about $20.00/mo next month and it was similar last year so the cost is getting out of hand. Is there any place in the forum that disucsses alternatives to cable tv? I am a technician so building a pc is no problem. I am interested in people who have stopped cable tv and the solutions they used. I have read about numerous alternatives over the past few weeks, but it would be very helpful to find people that have actually "cut the cable." The main tv is in the living room (Panasonic 52" HDTV less than a year old), an older tv in my office with internet access if necessary and in my bedroom with no internet access at the moment. I would have no problem cutting to just the one in the living room if that would be the optimum solution, but if I can run all three without too much expense or trouble that would be fine. I'm running a Netgear Dual-Band gigabit router and Comcast is telling me I should have 20Mbs from them. An option is to go with basic cable so I still have cable in all three locations and possibly subscribe to Hulu Plus & Netflix in the living room as my Blu-Ray and TV are internet ready with some of the applications/subscriptions as options included with them. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks...........

Hi,
I have seen this site, but I don't think it is available yet and there is no contact number just a contest and Facebook page. If you know any more about this than what is on the website please let me know......Thanks.

Cheap solution: stop watching TV.

Seriously. You'd be surprised at the rich variety of things you can do with your time if you stop watching the boob tube.

I guess the question that I am missing is HOW you use that internet connection. You may be able to get away with DSL / Dish solution (provided you have clear line of sight to the southern sky), or fiber (if it is available.)

Seeing as you are considering Hulu Plus and Netflix, you may want to consider a solution that has high throughput caps. And given the fact that Comcast is about as prevalent as a Waffle House, your only big name alternatives are AT&T, Verizon, Frontier, or Qwest (Depending on where you live)

i use my antenna(digital local shows) and dl shows i want 2 watch via torrents, then through 2 my TV. i dont watch much TV generally.

btw, i rarely bad-mouth companies but whenever i hear the word "Comcast" the thought of "Scum of the earth" quickly comes to mind.

hope that helps.
