I really don't know what to tell you other than a neighbor had a similar problem so I went over and we screwed with it. Phone lines in the house looked good so I moved outside where box at entry to residence was severely corroded so completely cleaned that up. There was considerable improvement but it still sucked. I suggested he call AT&T as I am not into pole climbing anymore.
Took a week and they showed up. Junction box on pole was aged, water damaged and those connections corroded. They fixed that and things worked fine. Good DSL relies very heavily on signal quality and strength. What pisses me off is AT&T had no problem sending the neighbor a DSL Do It Yourself kit but they have no clue what the actual signal looks like at the residence. Then it takes forever to get the bastards out to actually look at things.

That all make sense! I decided to run a really long (100ft telephone wire) to the box outside, and its working but when its not i have to restart my computer, not the box and firefox isn't working nor IE, only Safari which i downloaded when IE actually worked yesterday. But its really slow. I did call AT&T yesterday and the Earliest they can get someone out here is monday, late monday i might add. I would think that if you are paying for the their high end service they would rush out and fix it quick, but no there customer support sucks! Although, there was once when it was slow or no connectivity (like now) they came out 4 hours later and the guy didn't even know why he was here until i explained to him the problem then he did a test to the modem and the lines, all was clear and he plugged it all back in (not that i couldn't do it) and it worked! All this problems started 4 days ago when i decided to upgrade to the highest DSL until i can afford the deposit on Uverse, and since the upgrade i've had two good days of internet service, other then that its been really horrible, i'm about to get my money back and get Charter Cable even though there no better but at least where i am now they are much more dependable. But also i did notice that a ATT box one of many was open with cables on the ground weeks ago and it stayed like that, i guessed it didnt effect anyones service, but then we had about 2ft of snow one day and then its rained non stop since. maybe thats effected it? don't ya just hate how we have to pay so much for really Shitty service!
