upgraded to 2k5, copied my projects to another folder, pulled from VSS again, checked it out, copied my project files back in, and then checked it back in.

TFS is god's blessing to VSS admins (like me). Yeah, I know what you mean. Change an UNC, you're screwed. I've that happen to me at so many orgs it pissed me off. I love TFS, easy to use, integrates well with VS.
Seriously though, use ClearCase and you'll love VSS.
