Does anyone know of a good opensource VB IDE? It needs to run on Win 98 (I know it's a piece of junk, but I don't have anything else). Any help would be appreciated!

What version are you running?
What version you CAPABLE of running on Win98?

Most modern IDEs may not be backwards compatible that far.

And another thing, are you learning traditional VB (like VB6 type stuff) or VB.NET?

I don't know if Visual Basic 2008 express edition is compatible on win 98 but give it a try.

I doubt it is, and even if it is, it's not "open source."

If VS 2008 is not compatible with Win98, you might try VS 2005:

There's also SharpDevelop and MonoDevelop. Both are OSS. I doubt they're Win 98 compatible though.

If you can't run any of those, try MonoDevelop on Linux.

I am running Windows 98 First Edition with Service Pack 1. I am using VB.NET. I know that programs created with VB Express 2005 run on 98, but the IDE itself won't.

I'm getting a job this summer to earn money for a new computer, so just ignore this post.

But thanks to all who posted suggestions. It helped me decide what I should use for this new computer.
