The fuss created by the open beta for Windows 7 has obscured another piece of news that is relevant to devs like us: the Win7 Beta SDK has also been released.

It includes:

Quote:
The Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1: BETA provides the documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools (including C++ compilers) that you need to develop applications to run on Windows 7 BETA and the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. To build and run .NET Framework applications, you must have the corresponding version of the .NET Framework installed. This SDK is compatible with Visual Studio® 2008, including Visual Studio Express Editions, which are available free of charge.

Awesome!

This is the push that WCF and WPF was needing. Guess I need to learn something new now :)

Although I doubt we will be moving to Windows 7 here at work till well after the launch.

I knew you'd be the first to respond to this thread .. :)

If you play with the SDK, I'd love to hear your impressions / thoughts. I'm a bit busy with my iPhone at the moment and I don't want to clutter my thoughts until I've sorted this thing out.

I will try to play with it, but most of my experience lies with .NET 2.0.

I have heard LOTS of good things about 3.5 though.

Yeah, most of my .NET development has been with 3.5, and I do like it a lot. I don't think I'll try the Windows 7 SDK though, especially not until Java for Windows 7 comes out :) Although, if CrashTech tries it and likes it, or if other devs really like it, I might give it a try.
