What apps should I look into for making something like the moving add banners all over the Internet?

Are there any legit freeware products out there that include tutorials?

Hrm .. not quite sure what you need, my friend.

Do you want to make animated gifs or flash ads? Gifs are easier, but limited. Flash will let you do almost anything, graphically, but requires more skill.

Describe the end product and I'll try to figure out what tools you need to produce it. :)

A gif with 3-5 layers would work. You probably have add block on so you don't know what I'm referring to. lol

I need a 'moving' image (very simple one with scrolling text over some kind of image) that I can develop and then have a client upload to their Intranet for 30 days.

Sounds like you just need an animated .gif then.

Honestly, though, I've no idea. I've never done any kind of web design work, so I don't know how to make pretty pictures move. :?

You can make the annimation using GIMP which is free. I never did one using GIMP but there is a shitload of tutorials out there.

I have done them using Annimation Shop 3.0 found in old JASC software like Paint Shop Pro 7 & 8. If you have a few days PM me and I'll send you a solution.

This should help with GIMP as it is about a banner:

We try real hard to keep monkeys happy.

When a monkey gets unhappy or pissed things get horrible. I have seen that sort of shit happen at the zoo.

To a degree you're right, but not entirely.

It wasn't a blue screen either... :P

How am I right only to a degree?

Applications that do graphics maniulation/creation/etc != programming.
Graphics are not source code complied to run like a program (and if you give me shit about virus code hidden in jpgs, I will slap you).

You program the application to do the graphics manipulation, sure, but it is not the same thing.

CrashTECH is correct. At the risk of extending an already-everextended code metaphor, graphics (at least in the context in which we are talking about them) != programming.

P.S.: Monkeys? They always mean trouble.

I appreciate your eagerness to answer questions, Quertior, but please pay attention to the dates on these threads.

You're resurrecting zombie threads that died months ago ... not a good idea.
