I would personally rely on the internet and google, but the O'Reilly books are very well written. I keep a couple around for reference myself.

O'Reilly publishes some of the best books in the business.

Please don't start two threads with the same subject. I'm going to leave this one open for a while to see if you get more responses, but in the future, I'll summarily chose one thread to remain open and lock the other.

What does the school use?

VB.NET Step By Step by Michael Halvorson (Microsoft Press) is pretty good. Also the VB.NET Black Book (Que Press) is good. Working from memory as I am on the road.

Look into Pro VB.NET 2005/2008 with .NET 2.0/3.5 Framework from Apress. I keep that book close at hand when I'm writing VB code.
