So what do you guys think? My highlight reel:
  • Yes, Java can beat C/C++ in benchmarks...
    • Granted, it was only one benchmark
    • Three different C/C++ compilers were tested.
    • All performance flags were evaluated and the best performing was selected.
    • Nuff said.
  • Sun and IBM JVMs seem to do different things well for some reason.
  • C# .NET is pretty damn fast.
  • Mono, for the most part, blows still.
  • GCJ is even worse...
    • lousy performance
    • not portable
    • not compliant

Well, they did two updates since the previous post. Looks like the C/C++ compilers were a little pissed and took back the Linpack benchmark from C#. JRockit was added to the list of JVMs and put in a nice showing.

When is the new spec app server benchmark scheduled for release?! I can't wait. WWIII will soon be upon us. :)

Well at least complaints about Java being slow can be laid to rest.

And future improvements of the Java VM can probably surpass C/C++.

There are still some cases where it is noticably slower, but it'll continue to improve at a faster rate than C/C++. Hopefully, these slow parts will evaporate. :)

So what have you been working on lately?
