I want to write small programs for my class to do certain kinds of math for me, like compounding interest ect. what language would be best for this?

To do simple arithmetic? Whatever language you are most comfortable in, I'd say.

Whataver language has a good math liibrary.

Fortran and Cobol. Those are your best choices, gamerfreak. You should learn those immediately.

since you may or may not get kenshins joke dont learn fortran or cobol.

Learn either qbasic or visual basic, those are your easiest to learn languages (for those who consider them languages).

I'd say C / C++.

Your TI-83 will do this for you, heck, a sheet of paper can as well. A VB app can do the same thing.

Now, if you want to write your own vector class with overloaded operators...then I'd say C++.

Why does it seem like you ask them same question once a month.

An easy solution would be to use Mathematica. Otherwise, I would suggest either Python or Java. As previously mentioned, most languages are fine for simple math.

Making fun of Fortran is all fun and games until you realize that it contains some calc or trig function that is going to cause you severe brain damage to implement in C++ or some other language.

PITA brain damaged languages. Try reading and understanding some old qbasic code and you'll see what I mean.

Need to do som text processing? Usy python/perl
Need to write an OS? Use C/C++
