 Post subject: database backup question in oracle thanks.

Hi I have a question I would like to know how to back up a database in oracle. I mean I do know how to use the commands and all, but I dont know how to back up a database even though I know what the purpose is for. So help me out with this.

There are three different backups you can do with Oracle.

1. Export
2. Hot Backup
3. Cold Backup


The first question you need to ask yourself is can you shut down the database to do the backup? If so then a cold backup will work just fine. If not you can use an export or hot backup.
