I cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly get the beast that eclipse is to work. Basically what I'm trying to do is to edit the stock mms.apk app from the aosp. So I download the source and create a new project from existing source in eclipse, but eclipse is throwing me thousands of errors that it cant resolve anything thus preventing it from building. Obviously it has to be something wrong with eclipse because I can run the stock apk on my phone.

Do you have all the dependent libraries setup correctly in Eclipse?

As my supervisor at work said when I mentioned Eclipse on Windows: "Aha! There's your problem"

Yes, it's very important that you follow the procedures on the Android development website to the T. I've been able to do it twice, but it's annoying as hell. But hey, if you can get the emulator running and make a "Hello World!" program, you should be good to go.

I don't know... I guess it was stupid of me to assume that Google would make the logical decision to include those libraries in the aosp.

How would I go about doing this?

I suspect that you have all the libraries on your system; Eclipse just doesn't know where they are located on it.
