Hi, I'm a student at the Springfield High School of Science and Technology-don't let the name fool you, some teachers can't even turn a computer on. My school has entered the FIRST Robotics Challenge and have received a clue in the form of a picture.
How is the project coming along? I would have loved to be able to compete in something like this during high school. Enjoy it!

I know it's possible to compare the the resolution of the image to the dimensions in order to find the distance from the camera lens it was.
Hmm... what (specifically) do you mean by dimensions? In order to accurately find the size of the item, I think that you need to have a reference object of known size in the picture (like a dollar bill).
Good luck!
