Maximum PC

Hi, I'm a student at the Springfield High School of Science and Technology-don't let the name fool you, some teachers can't even turn a computer on. My school has entered the FIRST Robotics Challenge and have received a clue in the form of a picture. We have no clue what it is. I know it's possible to compare the the resolution of the image to the dimensions in order to find the distance from the camera lens it was. And from there it's only basic trigonometry. The problem is I don't know how to measure the resolution nor do I know the formula (or formulas) to do the conversion. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know whether the camera has a zoom?

Do you know that that is probably not a photograph?

I am not really up on robotics &
maybe this isn't what you are looking for.

But, from the way the 'acrylic' shield is
attached i don't think it could be much
larger than is shown.

Also, a clue as to what it might be
can be found on the metal pieces
at the bottom of the picture.

At each end there appear to be
'slide' stops.

Hmm... what (specifically) do you mean by dimensions? In order to accurately find the size of the item, I think that you need to have a reference object of known size in the picture (like a dollar bill).
