 Post subject: 5900XT or 9600XT?

well, on my budget these two cards are looking the best. i've heard REAL good about both. so im looking to the boards for more info ^_^. don't suggest any other card unless it's in my range(200 MAX). thanks for any help :D

true, but hes wondering between those two. Of course he might as well get the 9800pro if hes going to the trouble to get a 5900xt

On Aquamark 3 scores, the most you'll really get is 15% higher with the 9800 Pro. I say, if you want to save money go for the the 5900XT. There's really no point/dollar advantage to the 9800Pro, you have to pay for all those extra points.

Now, if you're talking 3D Mark 2005, why yes, a 9800Pro will get much higher scores. This is probably due to the 9800Pro's SM2 vs the 5900's SM1.5.

Don't forget that the 9800pro is faster than the 5900xt in DX9, which is why it scores higher in 3Dmark05.

There are a bunch of them there right on the $200 mark. This one seems to be the most popular, at $207 Shipped.

Edit: BTW, don't go with the ones that are under $190. They're probably crippled.

another option is going with the 256 bit version of the powercolor 9800_se and praying it will softmod to a 9800 pro without any artifacts, those go for about 150.
