I guess my understanding of frequencies is wrong...

I've seen many audiophile-grade 2-way speakers spec'd to go below 50Hz.
What gives?

There's a bunch of audiophiles are convinced that crossovers are teh devil.

Nothing gives, but those 2-way speakers can't handle those low frequencies like the subwoofer could, and it's actually not a good idea to set the crossover to the bottom limit of the speakers, it should blend, even if we're talking about class A hardware.

This is my current setup...

CENTER

Would that Onix Rocket Sub be appropriate or would something else be more suitable? I hear there's a 12" version on it's way if it hasn't already arrived...

you dont need anything over 5.1 there is little difference between 5.1 6.1 and 7.1 it might make a difference if the speakers were a foot from ur head, but otherwise you dont need it
