Maximum PC

Just got a roku and it looks like you can use playon or Plex to stream from a PC. I am not using anything but VLC to play my movies from either the DVD or ones that I have ripped to the HD. Looking for a all in one media solution that I can use for streaming to other tvs or any other device for that matter. Don't want to have a computer on all the TVs so that is why I am tryng the roku.

Anyone use either of these programs? Looks like Plex is free and Playon has a fee, or maybe another one out there I have not mentioned.
