I have a DLNA certified TV, but my laptop (ASUS K42JR-A1) doesn't appear to be DLNA certified. Maybe it is, but looking through the specs, googling for info on it, gives me nothing mentioning DLNA. I read in the magazine though that Windows 7 has the capability to act as a Digital Media Server (DMS). Does this mean that I can indeed stream my videos to my TV directly from my laptop? If so what is the process of doing this?

Thanks for the help!

Your laptop wouldn't be certified for DLNA, it's the software on the laptop that provides the DLNA compatibility.

I don't know much about DLNA, but what works for me on my LG TV (it supports DLNA), is I have a share from my computer that the tv then connects to and is able to play files off of. Doing it this way requires the tv to know how to play the file in question. If there is a better/more proper way to do this I'm sure someone else will come along and say what it is.

yeah I just figured out how to share my WMP library on my windows 7 laptop and the files are showing up on my samsung tv aftering going into allshare, but none of the files play saying "file not supported." It doesn't even show the same file names. Just says things like 001, 002, etc. etc. Some of the files are divx, some are .MKV.

I don't think DLNA support .MKV files. I setup my Dell PC with Windows 7, and the networked WD TV Live Plus could not read the .mkv files for streaming to HDTV. If I copy the MKV file to external hard drive for WD TV Live Plus, it plays well.

So for the MKV files, you may need to convert them into other file extension like MP4, MOV, WMV.

Not sure why your files name would be changed. There is no such issue on my PC.
