Maximum PC

Allright, I'm hoping the maxpc forum sound gurus can help me out with this problem. Can I set up programs to use different playback devices? Running a dual monitor from my vid cards hdmi to my a/v reciever and have a regular set of comp speakers working off the onboard sound. I want to be able to listen to one thing on my computer speakers and something else on my a/v reciever.

Running Vista 64bit and couldn't figure this one out. Need a specialty program?

I've only done this with multiple sound devices and that is probably the preferred way. So, my example was my laptop which had Realtek onboard and also had an nVidia HD audio. So, with that I could play a DVD in WMP through HDMI and set the playback device to the nVidia audio. My game that I was running would just use the onboard and pipe it through headphones/speakers.

So pretty much you need separate sound devices and a setting within the program.
