I have an EVGA 680i motherboard, (122-CK-NF68-A1) and I am looking to replace the EVGA 8800GTS videocard currently in it with a GTX295 videocard which is rated for PCI-e 2.0. From what I understand, all PCI-e 2.0 based videocards are backwards compatible with previous versions of PCI-e so I know I can pop in the GTX295 into the 680i (which isn't rated for PCI-e 2.0) and still be fine.

My question is since my 680i isn't rated for PCI-e 2.0 videocards but will still be able to run the GTX295, what performance/benefit hits am I incurring by using a PCI-e 2.0 rated videocard in a motherboard that isn't able to take advantage of it?

Thanks!

Wow... back in the day, I would have had at least a half dozen replies to this thread by now. It really does appear that MPC may be on the decline as far as these forums go... what a shame.
