Maximum PC

I have an Asus m47A78 Plus motherboard, and a 4670 ATI Radeon video card and am running Windows 7 and a VIZIO tv. The video card has an HDMI port. I have hooked it to my LCD TV using the HDMI cable and get a good picture but I haven't been able to get sound except from the computer speakers.

The control panel for sound has the options of HDMI, speakers, headphones, and two places for S/PDIF. The HDMI, speakers, and S/PDIF are listed as Ready. I tried the HDMI for sound but don't get any sound through the TV. I bought an optical cable but don't get sound through that option either. So, the only way I get sound is to attach computer speakers to the computer.

What do I need to do? Buy better computer speakers?

It's not enough to have the devices listed as being ready. You have to set the HDMI or Digital Output as the default device.

Have you checked the TV's menu system to enable/select HDMI input audio?

Some TVs can select from multiple inputs for HDMI audio.

I downloaded a more current driver from the Asus website. It works now. The sound goes to the TV through the HDMI cable.

But I like the sound from my good computer speakers better than the TV.
