So I was going to start spec'ing out another rig and the Max PC recommended MSI Eclipse is no longer sold at NewEgg. What would be the "new" replacement part from MSI? I was thinking P6T from Asus, but figured I'd give MSI a nod this time.

depends. What do you want to use the motherboard for? High-end motherboards are really a waste of money, and you'd probably be just fine if you went with an MSI X58 Pro-E USB3.

Or, more likely is that you don't even need an X58 motherboard. Chances are you'd be best off going with an i5-750 and P55 motherboard. At any rate, we need to know what you want to use the computer for.

Well, that would be more of a "help me build" type of question which wouldn't be appropriate for this forum. :D But, since you asked I'm replacing a nearly 6 year old gaming rig, and since I seem to be upgrading so infrequently I want to go balls-to-the-walls speed with this one, so for the moment I'm looking at the i7-980X CPU.

Once a product is no longer available from the 'Best of the Best' list, there should be something to replace it with. I was hoping to find out what the new 'Best of the Best' socket 1366 mobo would be.

Any thoughts?

Ehh, an overkill mobo isn't necessary for a long-lasting build. The 980X is also questionable, even for a build for maximum longevity. In a year or so there will be $200 CPUs that whip that thing.
