Hello all! It's been a while since I last posted here. I'm looking to get a codec pack, probably k-lite but find that every site I hit to download the pack looks shady. Where do you get your codec packs? I'm looking for a clean install, from a trusted site.

My only goal, as I'm having no issues w/ codecs is to be able to generate thumbnails of .flv files. I've got VLC installed and haven't come across anything I can't play.

So, a safe place to download? I'm getting more paranoid in my old age, too many of these sites use Free in the name - generally not a good place to aimlessly click ;)

Thanks!!

EDIT: Win7 Home Premium - 64-bit.

File Hippo is a great site, I've never had any problems in the 2 or 3 years that I've been downloading most of my programs from.

I think this was what you were looking for:

file hippo, cnet, free-codecs.com, those r the 3 I usually use, I've never had an issue from any of those, and free-codecs also gives a complete rundown of what's included and what it's all for.

Cool, thanks to you both! I can't believe I've never used either, though other than this thumbnail issue VLC has pretty much eliminated my need for codec packs. Both of those sites sound suspect do they not? Thank you for confirming that they are indeed safe places to download :)
