When encoding videos with programs like Handbrake (my favorite thus far), which is more important (or are they both equally): number of CPU cores, or L2 cache?

For example, would a dual core with 6MB of L2 cache be any faster/slower than a Quad core with only 2 or 4MB of L2 cache?

What about Intel Hyperthreading? Does this help speed anything up?
