Can I set my soundcard to use a 5.0 setup instead of a 5.1 setup? I have 5 speakers but the center speaker does not have a woofer (only way to plug it on, woofer and center into one connection) so can I tell the soundcard there is no subwoofer like I can on a real Audio receiver?

what OS?

in win7: control panel, sounds, playback tab, speakers, configure, select 5.1, click next, uncheck subwoofer. this will (or should) send low end stuff that normally would go to only the sub to all speakers. hope your speakers are full range.

yes i have windows 7

its a big mashup of speakers, the center is from a dell 2.1 combo, Front L and R are from a sony HIFI system (they are full range) and the rear are a set of creative gigaworks T20 lol

Ive cobbled together similar setups for folks out of cast off stuff balance and EQ it out and its not too bad actually.

what amp(s) powers this heap-o-stuff?

haha, ya its a little bit of a pain to get it configured right, but it works.

the dell 2.1 has an amp in the woofer (but it wont work if 5.1 cause left speaker works as center and right as the sub) the HIFI is powered by a sony 300watt mini system amp (speakers got one 6 inch woofer, 2 mids, and one tweeter) and the creatives are plugged into the wall.
