Dear Dog,
So I want to know when the new printer drivers will be out for HP's Officejet Pro K5400 for windows 7- 32 or 64. I go to the HP site and find there is a stripped down version in Win7- Well this does not tell me if HP is going to stand behind their printer or not. I rely on the drivers to help with making sure the ink is aliened correctly {test the printer}, how much ink is in my printer, and if I want to order ink from HP if I wanted to. So I called their 1-800 number and wait for 35 minutes to be told that because my printer is out of warranty they can't tell me or talk to me.

Come on! I am not asking for them to repair the damn thing.

I am simply asking if they are going to have a driver for the HP Officejet Diver or not for windows 7.

"Sorry, I can't tell you that because you're out of warranty" was all I got from the Indian' accented person on the other line. My printer is only about an year old and they can't bother to talk to me?

I understand if they are no longer making this printer they could say "We are really sorry but because this type of printer is no longer being made, we no longer support this printer, but we do support the new model X". Yes I would be upset, but because I really like HP printers I might go get it. I know I have bought enough ink from HP they should want my money.

I think I am going to call Costco where I buy my HP ink and let them know how I was treated by HP.

But this answer "Sorry we can't talk to you because your printer is out of warranty and we can't give you any information because your printer is out of warranty" is a great way to lose customers. I asked to talk to this guys supervisor, and was told he could not let me because "my printer is out of warranty." If I was to buy a new printer it would not be an HP unless they change their tune. Once upon a time HP was a great company, now that it does not care about end users, I would find some other company to buy your printer from. Also, So much about Microsoft getting companies to support fully their new OS.

Dog could you please bite HP, and see what 's really going on. If HP is giving their printer customers the middle finger over Windows 7 64, I really want to know.

If you haven't already, try installing the Vista 32 bit/64 bit drivers and see if they work. They may or may not.

Other than that, doesn't look like HP is going to release a driver since Windows 7 has a default printing driver.

It's the same thing with the Officejet 6210 all-in-ones and most of their other models for that matter. Even new sales and new models you have to look but they explicitly do not mention full compatibility with Win 7.

They originally had a note up on their site that they could not do the drivers until the new OS was actually on the street. As they could not be sure that the RC/Beta's were going to be the same as the RTM ver. I've been after them for over a month now and so has many of their forum members. I mean what possible valid excuse could they have. They had to have some pretty good info to at least make sure the bare min services/features worked.

The cheap bastards probably have 3 little old ladies in tennis shoes locked away in a broom closet one pad of paper and a nr 2 lead pencil writing drivers. Must keep expenditures under control ya know.

Their moderators and (I think) even one of the company dudes made a couple of posts with "how to's" for getting the auto updater to work for some models (Can't loose revenue on ink orders") and how to get the minimum print service and scan service to work with Win7 and Office app's. That you can no longer access all the features of the scanner or the fax modes such as auto document feed is not a problem for them.

I love the "If we say it is good for you , then it should be enough" attitude of some of these ''Big Brother" corporations like HP, IBM, Crapple, etc.

By the way, somehow (at least on the RC ver anyway) the Vista versions of their software won't install correctly either. Nor will the XP versions. This all came about when the last updates were published. So there must be some code in Win7 in the HP drvrs preventing it.

If don't happen soon, I told support I would join their forum and post a pic with both my destroyed Hp Printers and what ever their replacements were.

I'm just using the default drivers for my HP deskjet 845c. It works fine.

I agree partially with you on that. However there are many features that cannot be accessed with out the full Hp software suite installed. Such as Scanning a doc into a file in a particular format, a letter into a PDF format for instance. Or scanning multiple pages in via the auto feeder. you can only do it one page at a time using the MS/Win Office Tools. One sheet at a time with doing a complete option setup between each page. In addition, you cannot use the fax features, the machine wont connect to the computer/vice a versa. The only solution is to disconnect from the computer and use it as a stand alone fax.

These are all features I wanted, needed and paid for when I bought the printer. The kids have a very similar Lexmark All In One, though several of the outer plastic pieces got broken during their last transfer, I checked the Lexmark site back at the end of Sept-first of Nov and they had Win7 drvr's avail. Likewise Cannon and several others. And I'm not talking just 1-3 yr old machines either. Some of the cannon listings were machines that sailed with Capt Ahab.

I really think it tacky of HP to think it's perfectly all right to make you do with out the features/services you paid for until they get ready to do something.

With compatibility mode too?

1. Right click on the program's shortcut, .exe file, or installation program.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and Run this program as an administrator.
5. Change settings for all users
6. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and Run this program as an administrator.

Yep tried that and tried the same trick from the original software CD that came with the printer. That is I browsed the CD to the setup.exe file and right clicked it to select run in compatibility mode for both XP Then vista. It wil install their junky little photosmart suite and the update scheduler but that is it.
