Product is an Acer Aspire 6920g.
Phenominal price for what's inside, however problems from the box, it wouldn't load vista, it hung up on the install, so i took it back the next morning and replaced it, then everythin seemed great for a couple days (mainly the installing games and stuff days) and then, problems hit. Keyboard, as i began to notice, was slow and unresponsive if i typed over a certain speed, fair enough, i want to get into server stuff in a couple years, good thing i do slow down, could help me make no mistakes, on i went.
Decided since they wouldn't give me an OS disc, i'd make the retarded 3 dvd 10gb acer restore so i can remove that hefty restore partition brining me from about 320gb to 265gb, wasted 8 dvd's because the backup "failed" and that was a waste of money, because i could have done something useful with those dvd's like a ultimate boot disc for a friend.
After a couple months, i seen an article here that the mobility series was at a possible failure rate, so i talked to acer about that happening and what could be done, they told me "we don't do hardware things, because we don't test it" well no, you don't have to, nVidia didn't even catch it till a year later almost, so really if you want a good review, and good customer loyalty (which i still was pretty loyal to the company since it was a fair deal and a good pc in spite of it all) that they would work with me to assist me in this, they instead told me i'm on my own.
Next problem arose in early January (and made me want to tell them to take their goddamn pc and shove it and give me my money back, it was the first $1000 i got working at my new job), my 320gb western digital hard drive failed, no warning either, just dropped while i was making something in Flash cs4, and wouldn't boot, wouldn't even boot my linux partition...thank god for my linux using ways, i had PUD Linux on it, and i was able to at least get some of my work, so i phoned them up, and said "the hard drive failed, and It's been about 4 months since i bought this pc now, and this happened" and they gave me the "we don't test hardware" thing, and said for a fee we can take it in. It was cheaper in the long run, and more efficient for me to just buy a new hard drive and put it in myself, so i got one awesome hard drive from NCIX for just over 100, same size, but faster rpm, and it makes no sound.
Also in a final addition, their laptop policies on dead pixels is retarded, i have 2 or 3 dead pixels (one kinda works and with some colors it doesn't) on a 16" widescreen hd monitor, and they won't repair it, not in their policy to fix more than one dead pixel. All in all, the laptop itself is correctly built, keeps pretty cool, especially with my cooling pad, the hardware runs ok and it's got a cool feature (that is wonky at times and doesn't work) on the left that does sound and stuff also it comes with a blu-ray drive, which was nice with the HDMI output it has. I hate the x64 vista home premium, and i hate their support now, it's gone downhill since my first acer laptop (which was great).
I will never buy another Acer again though, even if it's the right price, because i'm going to spend countless hours repairing it, and putting money into something i shouldn't have to put money into.
You buy a pre-built so you don't have to spend time fixing it yourself. As a tech i can, but i don't want to come home from work and work on my stuff. Well, quite a rant, but some of these things are found by everyone who gets an acer (such as my mother, and one of my cousins)
