their cable service is, by far, the worst I have ever used.
a quarter of the time my connection speed is half of what I should be getting.
A couple days a week I can't even connect.
sometimes, when I am connected, I will type in a URL for a website that obviously exists, and I will be sent to their "website suggestions" page. then, if there is a link to the page I was trying to go to on that page, occasionally I will simply click it, and it will STILL take me to the same damn suggestions page.
Their customer service is terrible.
their installation person did a terrible job.
not to mention a 10mb service is the best they offer. and, as I said, half the time that means a 5mb service...
I hate this small town and I HATE TIME WARNER.
I hope, next time I see a Warner brothers cartoon, the coyote catches the damn roadrunner and eats him because he was tired or lazy and only running at half speed...

I highly recommend you check your system for virii and trojans. Being redirected is a dead give-away ... unless your DNS is dropping out over and over (very possible, too).

If you're infected, the fix is free. If you aren't ... you have to switch ISPs .. so you might as well check. :)

Another thing to check would be your host file. Make sure there are no redirection entries in there for certain sites.

I also recommend you run on OpenDNS and see if that redirection improves at all.

If it were only my computer that was these issues, I would agree with you, but these problems include my computer, my roommates desktop, my other roommates macbook, and even my ipod touch.

Time Warner can be a strange animal. I have Time Warner in the SE Cleveland, Ohio suburbs and have no complaints. We pay for a beefy cable package including extra for faster speed and in their defense they seem to deliver.

THis wasn't always Time Warner though. TW got what this area is when the late Adelphia went to hell with the founders going to jail. Overall between Adelphia and TW over the past 9 years (since broadband arrived in this area) the service has been great. There was only one major outage when a gas main exploded a few miles from here and toasted the fiber optics. They had that rerouted within 24 hours.

However, I have heard nightmare stories about TW in other states and areas. I guess some of it is the luck of the draw?

Something else to consider is cable quality, meaning connections and cable from the outside world to your entry point. My mom in Columbus was having issues. Poor speed, disconnects, the whole drill. My brother called TW and they came out and checked power level on her line. Seems some suqirrels ate parts of the line at the pole. They replaced everything. They noticed the house had older RG 59 cable so as long as they were there they replaced every inch of cable in the house with RG 6.

You may want to give them a call and ask them to come out and totally check the system and line quality.

Ron

Really? That's interesting, I might just have them do that. The cynic in my thinks they will probably tell me everything is fine or just send billy-bob out to get me to shut up, but who knows...

The cynic in you should sgive them a call and when the tech shows up look over his shoulder. Make sure you explain to the tech the problem in detail. The cynic has nothing to lose.

Hey there are some areas that just plain suck as I mentioned.

The problem in suck areas is alternatives. Sometimes TW might be the only draw in town that can provide the service.

The people prior to us had WOW! but we moved our TW over. Well, the WOW! had some sort of booster that messed with our TW and the first installer did not remove it.

Over the first month we had cable (and a couple of I-Net) issues. We too had the 'squirrel eaten' lines that finally go replaced.

NOTE: the people who finally took care of the situation were actual TW techs. I think they sometimes use 3rd party guys. We had about 4 calls i 5 weeks, but things finally got fixed... and we got 1 year of Showtime free for the frustration.

Keep at 'em and maybe insist on TW employed techs?

Generic Viri hit one computer. Anything under a decade old and generic will hit every singe computer on a network. Their intent is to spread, not just piss off one single person in the world.

Redirects is NOT a TW issue. You need to see Hackman in the FreeClinic. Can you visit SuperAntiSpyware's site? Or are you suggested elsewhere or blocked?
