My second PS3 is on the verge of death.

It has repeatedly locked up on me in the last two weeks.

I'm getting ready to take it in to Best Buy to get it replaced.

I've had two die. My brother-in-law's died. I've known numerous people who have had the red ring of death on XBOX 360s. (I was even considering getting one of the new Jasper revisions.)

What the hell?

At least when my moderate PC dies I have a clue what's wrong, or can look online and see how to fix it.

Bleh.

Since the first XBOX, consoles have gone downhill. Hell, even the PS2 didn't hold up. THe new gen ps3/xbox 360's are terrible when it comes to this. Every single person I know that owns one has had to either get it fixed or been sent a new one under warranty. The only console I haven't heard much about are the Wii's.

P.S. And all my friends wonder why I game on my pc ONLY!!

FWIW, my PS2 died FIVE TIMES. I sold it the final time and bought a digital camera instead (still have the digital camera actually).

Well if you went playing overtime then thats what your always going to ended up, but I had my ps3 for 2 years and its still alive so there is no point of ppl saying that consoles suck.

I'm not saying consoles suck.

I enjoy playing on consoles.

There are certain game genres that just don't translate well to the PC, such as fighting games (huge Soul Calibur series fan) and games like Rock Band.

In fact, that's what I was in the middle of playing when it locked up earlier today.

Playing Green Grass and High Tides on drums, on hard at that, with around a minute to go in the song, and having five stars already... yeah, that sucked.

I should be able to play my PS3 for hours if proper cooling is ensured.

There's quite a difference between saying console's suck, and that they aren't reliable, like we're talking about here.

You have to admit, the XBOX 360/PS3 has had tons of problems. You got lucky with a good one, so be thankful you aren't having the problems the rest of these poor souls are. I know if I dropped 500-600 bucks on a console, the damn thing better last. You buy a console to game with. It doesn't have multiple uses like a PC does. It needs to be able to do that one thing well. So far, the latest gen consoles haven't been able to stand up to hours on end gaming like the old days of the cartridge consoles like the NES and SNES.

I was going to run F@H on our PS3. But due to many stories like this, I'm just gonna let my PC's do that and use the PS3 with adequate cooling for gaming.

Sorry about your luck with that thing. They friggin cost too damned much to have issues like that!

My PS3 has been folding for about a year now, pretty much non-stop, without any issues..guess I got one of the few "reliable" ones.

The one problem I have with consoles is all that heat producing hardware crammed in such a small case. With poor air flow. Yes i'm aware of third party ways to cool them.

I have a PS3 from when the 500gb HDD was introduced and it works great. I bought it in Japan though so when I got the power adapter it did overheat alittle but sent it to sony when I got back to the states and they replaced it all I paid was S/H. All PS3/360 are, are little computers the have crappy cooling and vents. Just like a PC though everything can be mod'd with the right tools and know-how

My friend when through 2 PS3s in 15 days. The first one was DOA and the second began having problems after day 12, then simply refused to turn on after day 15.

My Xbox360 is the one that is suppose to die, yet hasn't. I'm not a heavy console gamer though, but use it as a DVD player pretty heavily.

The problem w/ todays modern consoles is that their using high end PC parts and trying to cram them in as tight as possible, which makes the hardware very suseptible to overheating and heat damaging issues. Whereas w/ a c we have more room and more means with which to cool the parts down.

That was why the first 360's started dying, too much heat in small space.

So troubleshooting is a very good thing.

It's not the PS3.

It's not the HDMI cable.

It's the AVR I have. (Onkyo TX-SR605)

The good news is that the AVR is within the warranty still, the bad news is I get to ship it off for who knows how long. :?
