Ok, so after Infineon lost top DRAM spot to Micron when we switched from SDRAM to DDR I've been buying nothing but Crucial memory.

So I order 1GB of DDR this week for a client and the RAM comes in and the sticks HAVE FUCKING SAMSUNG CHIPS ON THEM!!!! WTF!!??

Samsung can kiss my ass, I stopped buying memory from them in 2003.

But seriously, Crucial is a goddamn division of Micron and they're shipping memory with Samsung chips?!! WTF?!!

Been that way for the last 3 or 4 years dood. At least in the little research that I've done.

Really?

I grabbed some DDR either last year or the year before and they were Micron chips.

I read a few posts in some forums that were dated back as far as '05 and the Crucial sticks had Samsung on them. Perhaps it's just select models?

EDIT: Also, from Anandtech.com, March 1 2005:
"Interestingly enough, despite their relationship with Micron, Crucial's SO-DIMMs use Samsung chips."

Based on this, it wouldn't surprise me to see them use Samsung on desktop ram either.

Here's a link to some forums from 2003 with reports of Crucial using Samsung AND Infineon chips, as well as Micron.

This was a gig of vanilla DDR @ PC3200.

Perhaps the Micron chips are only used on their higher end products. Either way, my bullshit alarm is still going off.

I think with future orders I'm going to be calling Micron up with every order and finding out what kind of chips are on the goddamn stick before I buy it.

Micron is a local company, so we hear basically everything that goes on with them in the news.

FYI, they are having alot of problems, so don't be surprised with this memory crap. Some stuff is not made "by" them, but they purchase it from another manufacturer. (Sometimes its one that they "own") MPC, their computers manufacturing side, is going belly up.

*edit* After I hit post, what do I see at the bottom? You guessed it, a Crucial Memory ad.

Micron hasn't manufactured/sold computers since 2001.

They sold that division off to a corporation called MPC that recently went bankrupt a few days ago.
