I hate vista now after having it for months now.

I brought a Dell M1530 fully loaded with a Intel Duo Core 2.0Ghz, 4gb ram, 320 gig hard drive, and Nvidia 8600gt, but the one thing i was worried about was Vista. Vista was actually alright at first but then i started having problems with some of my games like NFS Carbon (it should work but it doesn't , and some programs like divx don't work properly. I'm just gonna start over with Vista afresh and then see if everything is fine, if it doesn't i'm just calling it a day, and i'm just gonna have to sit with it
until windows 7 comes out. i can't install XP either which sucks so i'm stuck.

Make sure you've updated to SP1 for Vista. I use Divx on my Vista 64 install with no issues.

Are you using Divx (the official codecs, I'd guess?) for encoding work, or just for playback?
If the latter, I'd suggest uninstalling the Divx bundle, and installing ffdshow-tryouts. Myself (as well as many other people - take a look around at thegreenbutton) have had, well, issues with the official Divx codecs under Vista, especially within Media Center.
ffdshow is a lot lighter, and quite a bit faster. My lappy struggled a bit with avi playback with the 'real' codecs installed; no problems with ffdshow.

Yes, DivX on Vista is really sucky. Get the FFDshow and kiss your problems goodbye!! Although, I'm beginning to suspect that FFDShow MAY be the cause of some of my Fallout 3 errors, but I'm not sure yet.

And for Need for Speed Carbon, set the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 (Not XP, not 95, but 2000 ;)). I have no idea why, but that's what did it for me.

Ok instead i used the dell factory image reset. (i was too lazy to reinstall vista)

But the image worked fine, i had to install my programs, and change my settings but it was worth it, Carbon Worked, and so far i haven't had problems. I already beat the games and hadn't had a problem.

Divx works alright, but i haven't installed winamp yet. i had a problem with Divx in winamp mainly.

So maybe vista isn't that bad as i thought, but i guess i should just wait for the updates, and maybe it will fix the problems.

Vista is Been Running fine for a week but Divx is really being a bitch!

I use Divx for my videos i download off of youtube. Do you guys think i should try a different format like Mpeg 2 or Windows media, I'm really considering this now...

I also noticed my Xvid videos don't work in Media Direct.

Try FFDShow....really. Most, if not all, of your problems will be history.
