some friendly advice, NEVER buy one of these.

i have one that is just over a year old, i have had to have the motheboard replaced 3 times, have had 2 memory problems, and have had to re-image my hard drive once due to corrupt automatic updates. i have purchased extended warranties through Circuit City and neither Circuit City or HP will replace my laptop, oh and it is also back at Firedog right now due to a graphics problem.

if you want a good quality, long lasting laptop, don't go with an HP

I've already complained about my hp laptop, it keeps overheating, the battery died after 14 months, and after what they did to me.

I've had a ZD8000 for four years now. It still screams right along. Graphics are getting dated, but it's a laptop.

Anton, yours wouldn't happen to be a unit affected by this bulletin, would it?

Oh, and, one question: how is you having to re-image the HDD due to "corrupt automatic updates" HP's fault? MS Automatic Updates, yes? Maybe blame MS on that one? HP didn't write the OS, after all....

Sounds like you have just as much problems with Firedog and the extended warranty as you do with HP there.

I've been a happy HP 9000 series laptop user for about 9 months now.

I've recommended HP laptops to 5 different people over the last year.
They have all been extremely satisfied.
Sounds like you got a lemon or the story goes deeper.......

currently in a battle to get my notebook replaced. went back and forth with them saying it was fixed and shipping my laptop back only to find out it would crap out on me. now the case has escalated. they said they would replace my product, but the "comparable" unit they spec'd for me was nowhere near what i originally had. how do you screw up a dedicated graphics chip for onboard mediocrity?

in any case, i can't recommend HP laptops to consumers anymore.

i have had 2 dv9000's in the last year

as a independent repair tech for hp when i found a clearance hp dv9600 at compusa when they went out of business for $350 i figured what a score!!!

well 2 days later the first hard drive crapped out, this unit has 2 120gig hard drives, well three days later i had a new drive from hp,
2 weeks later that drive crapped out....
i called hp and got another one in 2 days
3 months later that one crapped....

called tech support and raised hell for a day or so....was eventually given to a Case Manager........
after pleading my case to her she not only waived the normal 3 bench repairs before we replace a unit policy...she asked me to go to their website and spec out a dv9000 with anything i wanted short of blue-ray and upgraded the processor 2 tiers over the one i had <i switched to Intel from amd>

so if you apply a little honey in the right places HP will help you sometimes
