Best Buy was opening a new store around Warner Robins, GA and it came up with Geek Squad. Obviously, they could only fit in 5 people into this group. They did interview me for such a job and it turned out okay. But when it came to hiring, no one from there had the decency to at least contact me and tell me if I was in for this job, instead of "silently" hiring dumber folks behind my back.

Best Buy hired someone else over me because they know I am one of thousands of real geeks that do know the ins and outs of hw and sw. If I see someone I don't care for behind that counter, I'll be bleeding through my eyes.

Geek Squad, like FireDog and CompTech (defunct CompUSA Tech Shop), relies upon the technician following a prescribed method of troubleshooting.

It's not about knowledge - it's about getting low-cost work into the shop for a profit - without getting their corporate asses sued for "Malpractice."

Any facet of the large stores like that is corporate drone cloning. Innovations, shortcuts, and the like are frowned on. I know - I used to manage a CompUSA Tech Shop - I caught more hell for fixing systems my way (but fixed properly) than from other shop problems.

I work at Wal-Mart, and a woman that used to work with me got fired for doing something stupid, then went to BB, and hired on to the Gank Squad. She's all like "it's great, I get paid almost twice the rate as I did at Wal-Mart", but later I found out from her daughter, who works at my store, that she also is only part time, and doesn't get to take advantage of her A+ Certification 'knowledge' (I've proven to her many times that I know more than she does, and I have no certs), like she thought she would. A few weeks ago, she actually told me I should try to get in there, because they were hiring. I just laughed at her and told her that I actually have some standards to hold myself up to. She asked what I meant, and after I told her, she still didn't get it. I HATE GEEK SQUAD!!! They're an embarrassment to all of us decent, intelligent, useful techies, worldwide. I see major PC flubs, and immediately think "What the Geek Squad?"

wat do you expect? Best Buy is just another large corporation, they just want money. take a look online, i'm sure a number of you will find this very very funny, for a sting operation they did in Ontario for Best Buy and a few other places. The techs they had brought in were terrible! there was one guy that came in, and without even asking the customer any questions or troubleshooting automatically assumed this customer's problem was a failing hard drive issue. Another tech started poking around inside the case without unplugging the computer or shutting off the PSU.
Some other problems they had were that the techs used some scare tatics to try and get the customer to buy parts (that they happened to have on sale  )
Do u really want to be apart of team Super Suck? be happy ur not being mad to lie to customers. They had an interview with one guy (think he worked at geek squad or staples) he was screamed at by his manager and then fired because when a customer came in with a problem, he was able to tell the customer how to fix it without charging her anything.

If anyone knows the video i'm talking about drop a link for it.

Its not a requirement for a company to call you back if your not hired, its just a nicity. Big companies like Walmart and Best Buy usually don't call you back. Unless the HR person is right on the ball (usually not, usually off their rocker)

Didn't we just have a suck thread about Staples or something and how they would not hire this guy. I think I am beginning to see what the interviewer picked up on...

There's over a hundred threads waiting for you to put that in their threads, because if you haven't noticed, this is the dog pound where people get to "whine" about stuff.

Until you said something, I hadn't even noticed that. I now have one of those "WTFM" thought bubbles over my head.

Companies with bad products or services. Not for companies that won't hire you because they found a better qualified person to fill the spot.

I'm gonna go with the theory that they found someone more mentally stable to fill the position.

Give a guy a break. With the economy this bad it doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong with him. There are just 50 and 60 yr old men filling those jobs, because they were layed off and thats all that they can get. You people are brutal.

Then pick another job or career. If you find a certain line of work finds you unemployable, you should take a hint and move on. SuperChip explained very clearly what they want and it's not him.

I'm not sure what you see out there, but times are mildly rough, employment surely isn't. If I got fired this second, I could be employed tomorrow for about the same income. It's the career path that wants me vise the others that may not. Forcing this issue and completely saying this is BestBuy's Geek Squad that sucks is definitely not correct. If they suck, it's for their work not them not hiring you. He just got done bashing Staples, so when does the clue set in to find another line of meaningful employment?

Jedi mind trick:
*Waves hand* These are not the jobs you're looking for.

What do they pay? $12 starting? That's what it said about 4 years ago when I was turned down for part time employment at CompUSA. $13.11 counting 3% annual increase. Then perhaps back down to $10 for not being California. Is that really something to continue shooting for and making a deal about it? If ya know the ins and outs of computers, do it without these guys...

Because stuff like this:

doesn't sound like you're all that and a bag of beans. There's a case for 64-bit computers?

Well duh. 64 bits is twice as many as 32 bits. Thus, the case has to be twice as big. I think they call it "BTX" (the B is for Bigger).

Well, I for one will never let the Moron Squad touch my computer for any reason. They might mess up even more so that they can charge me $79.

I've fixed several friends PC's for free just to keep them from going to crap squad.

This is not a forum for whinging about 'stuff'. It is a forum for complaining about companies, their products, and their services.

It is certainly not a forum for whinging and bitching about a company because they didn't hire you.

It is a shame that honesty is so undervalued that its appearance is inevitably labelled an attack.

To get a job at the geek squad you need two things. An A+ certification and/or retail experience. It isn't how great you are and your experience on computers but meeting the minimum requirements to fix a computer after their training but also to sell sell sell.
