Sweet. Did you get one of the new Hi-MD models?

I'm looking at the NZ900 to replace my aging R900 Mini Disk Player/Recorder.

I've had an iPod for over two years one 3G and one mini. Both have had little problems, however if you are using USB 2.0 to connect, it seems that the USB 2.0 never has enough energy to give the iPod the initial charge. Using the firewire and connecting it directly to the wall in with the charger that came with it seems to work best and once its fully charged you can upload everything. From that point on as long as the battrie dosen't die UBS will recharge it. Also you might want to check out apples support forums for more ideas

Creatives Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra is good, if a little confusing on the layout of the buttons.

must be hard drive. must have good sound. preferable to have software.

I have the Creative Zen Xtra 60GB (they really need to find better naming schemes, cuz thats a mouthful), and I love it. True, the button layout could use some work cuz it's hard to operate one handed, but I have learned to adjust. Frankly, I just leave the thing on 'play any song' and hit 'next' if i don't like what comes up, and it's pretty easy to navigate to my playlists one handed, so it's never really been much of an issue. LCD screens on all the mp3 players I've used are just too small to do much hardcore pawing around in large libraries. There was an issue with some models where the audio jack wasn't reinforced which caused it come loose from the contacts on the pcb, but it has been fixed, so you shouldn't ahve to worry about it. Battery life is awesome, no nasty DRM/synching issues, sound quality is EXCELLENT and LOUD. Creative just came out with a mini player which looks very interesting as well.

Friend of mine has the Rio Karma, and he likes it a lot as well. It has a very simple and easy to operate button scheme, but again, he usually just leaves it on 'play any song' or it's equivalent, and occassionaly hits 'next'!

i've had bad expirences with RIO. two dead MP3 players in 9 months. I have an ipod and it works great but for an alternative. any Creative branded MP# player is worth looking into. personally i wouldnt look into RIO but thats your own discression.

Unfortunately it's additional overhead and higher CPU usage makes it slower then Firewire. Even vanilla Firewire spanks USB 2.0, and there's the issue of Bus Power that USB seems to also be lacking in (2.5 Watts vs 18 Watts)

kewl - learn something new.
I thought it seemed faster with my iPod...

Speaking of - had my 4th G 20G iPod since Aug.
Only had a minor issue - the installer didn't write the proper file structure for some reason, but luckily ephPod fixed it. Otherwise, runs great.

I have to get around to getting Linux to boot off of it...

I have the ipod 3rd gen, and it works great, have had no problems with it at all. I have tried the Creative and I didn't find it easy to use at all.

I bought an iPod mini as a present to myself for getting a good job. I love it. LOVE.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned iTunes yet ... best ... audio ... software ... ever. It is so good, I'm considering writing a linux version ... call it lTunes, or jTunes. :D

Yes mr Shephard here recommends the little white POS they call an I-pod. Who does not want a battery failing on them, and an overpriced player that cannot be used without a particular program?????not i, not i

The software is free. If you don't like that software, and I have no earthly idea why you wouldn't, you can try the free software NOT released by Apple such as ephPod or (for linux) gtkPod.

Battery failure was fixed after the first generation of iPods ... and I never buy into the first generation of any tech.
