Does it matter? If its compatible with both (I don't know if it is or not) shouldn't it be made to WORK with both?

I've heard good things about the iRiver. It looks nice too.

/me is very happy with his 20GB Rio Karma, but there are reports of freezing issues, though I haven't experienced one yet and I've had it for about 5 months now, dropped it once :(

Here Here! Just because apple has it's own proprietary link system, doesn't mean they can't support a platform they advertise to be compatible with. Honestly, iPod's do LOOK nifty, however, they just lack the features that I would like. Whats really getting to me though is how every company on earth is starting to make things compatible with the iPod. Newflash...car accidents are hard enough to avoid when you have a bright, clear display on a solid mp3 compatible cd deck without having to glance down at a monotone pixelated display! Whats next? iPod compatible heart monitors? Or Pacemakers! give those an iPod port, no need for headphones! Not everyone wants to buy an iPod for 300 bux. I'm totally happy with my Pioneer mp3 car deck with XM Sat Radio and my sony mp3/atrac3 compatible discman...both of those together cost less than certain iPod's!!!!

USB2 too slow.

Unfortunately it's additional overhead and higher CPU usage makes it slower then Firewire. Even vanilla Firewire spanks USB 2.0, and there's the issue of Bus Power that USB seems to also be lacking in (2.5 Watts vs 18 Watts)

Here's the beef if ya don't believe me:

Yeah, "Universal Serial Bus" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Exactly! Firewire sounds like you could kill someone with it.

If you have to strangle someone, make sure its with a firewire cable. You'll get more respect that way.

Hmm...

What about comapring on-board USB with PCI Firewire? Is Firewire still faster?

I haven't thought about it, but my Firewire is PCI and I figured it would be slower - so I don't use it.
