Last night my Canon i850 printer did something a little strange... when I was looking through the pages that printed out, one of them stood out compared to the rest. It had little gears and springs stuck to it.

I don't think paper companies tend to hide such surprises in their paper, so I assumed (correctly! :) ) that it was from my printer.

I looked inside and saw where the parts had come from. There were more springs falling out and gears looking out of place.

Not too good..

I dug out my warranty information. Oops... my warranty had expired literally 3 days before. I visited Best Buy today (where I got the printer before I started working for a different PC company). Apparently they only had the printer warrantied for 14 days. Not a good warranty if I say so myself, but anyway..

I called Canon; they wanted me to drop in at a printer service station to talk to the guys there... why I had to talk to them, I have no idea. The guys at the station had me call Canon. After an hour of calling Canon and going back to the service station (went back and forth between the 2, 3-4 times) we finally got everything figured out.

Before the guy at Canon would talk to me about warranty information, he said he had a few questions to ask me. Not a problem.

Q. What is your opinion of the printer?

A. Very good until it broke. Great quality, great speed, very inexpensive ink.

Q. Ok, very good. And what do you think of our tech support?

A. Well, you guys seem to be very polite and pleasant.

Canon Guy: Excellent! Glad you approve of our products and support. In exchange, we're extending your warranty for an extra few days until we get your printer fixed up!

So!

Even though my 1 year warranty had already expired, Canon extended the warranty for a few days extra so I could have it working again, and all free of charge. The guy in the shop said that without the warranty, it would probably cost me close to $100 to fix the printer.

Kudos to Canon on the satisfaction to customers.
