I just got home from troubleshooting a friend's computer. Part of the problem(s) with this particular system turned out to be the fact that PC Cleaner Pro installed itself on this computer without the owner's knowledge. Nonetheless, upon researching this program (which purports to be a registry cleaner and optimizer as well as an antivirus program--Windows Security Center sees it as an antivirus program, too!), it's interesting to note that MalwareBytes has not targeted this program as malware as it considers it to be legitimate. Is this because it's advertised as a "Microsoft Certified Partner"? And, if it is legitimate, how come it installs itself by piggybacking on other legitimate software (such as PDF Creator) and before doing so, why does it not detect other legitimate antivirus software and ask you to remove it before installing itself on your computer? And if you choose to uninstall PC Cleaner Pro, why can you not find a free removal tool for it (like you can for Norton, AVG, McAfee, etc.) that removes all traces of the program that the program's built-in uninstaller will most likely leave behind? As far as I am concerned, this program behaves too much like malware (particularly in that it "finds" problems on your computer--even when unsolicited--then offers to fix them, but only if you buy the product first) to be considered a legitimate program. Woof!

Do we know what it piggy backed on? If so it may be a clue as to why malware bytes missed it.

It piggybacked itself on PDF Creator (see my original post at the beginning of this thread).
