i dont know if anyone watch's mythbusters but if they do did you see the episode where they tried shattering a cd in cd drive? They said it was busted meaning impossible well i just proved them wrong. about 3 months ago i was playin starcraft broodwar and i hear somethin wind up and heard somethin shatter so in doin so i did a quick emergency shut down. i figured possibly a fan or somethin. i checked everything couldnt find it. finially i moved my case and i heard the pieces comin from the drive. after takin it out and shakin it about 100 pieces fell out with who knows how much is still in there. i called samsung and emailed i couldnt get anyone for 2 weeks or response so i gave up and bought a sony dvd/cd-rw drive(couldnt be happier). So right now i'm debatin in sending my cd drive to mythbusters because their based out of san fransisco and i'm only about 50 miles from there an hour and half drive.

If they really did say that, they're fuckin' morons. I've seen a few cases of it happening myself. If the CD is cracked, old or cheaply made it can shatter at high speeds. That's one of the reason many Sony 52x drives require you to hold down the eject button for 5secs before it will actually operate at 52x.

I say, send the drive in to Mythbusters along with a letter telling them they're full of shit.

Also, this 'problem' is not limited to Samsung drives. It can happen in any high speed drive... Though I can understand your frustration that they haven't bothered to get back to you on this. :(
